Colin Palmer

Colin is a computational structural biologist in the CCP-EM core team, with a background in both software engineering and experimental structural biology. He is the software architect and principal developer of the CCP-EM Pipeliner and Doppio software.

As an undergraduate, Colin studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge with a specialism in biochemistry. He followed this with an internship in a software company and then a PhD at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, where he worked on new sample preparation technologies for electron cryo-tomography. In 2014, he moved into scientific software development and took on a role at Diamond Light Source working in the Data Acquisition software team. He joined CCP-EM as a computational structural biologist in 2016, where he enjoys the combination of scientific research, collaboration and software development. Outside work, he is keen on adventurous sports including skiing, sailing and orienteering, and also plays the violin in a small orchestra.
