CCP-EM distributes a broad collection of software from a variety of sources that are both internal and external to the CCP-EM project.
For the main CCP-EM suite, there is a single licence document governing the terms of use. Certain components of the CCP-EM suite may have their own conditions of use, including Open Source licensing, and these should be read in addition to the CCP-EM licence agreement.
Where we are able, we also redistribute from the CCP-EM website additional packages that are useful or necessary for running CCP-EM. These are not covered by the CCP-EM licence and have their own terms of use.
CCP-EM’s commitment to supporting the UK cryoEM community through the suite relies in part on income generated through corporate licence fees. The money derived from licence fees is reinvested back into the the community either directly, through training, workshops and the spring symposium, or indirectly, via sponsoring and supporting of staff, post-docs, and PhD students in external groups that contribute to the CCP-EM software suite. This strengthens the software being contributed and provides stability for both new feature and bug developments.
There are currently 3 types of licence available (valid at April 2025):
